Tell us the story behind Woldmarsh & farm weddings and events.
The farming world is challenging and faces many uncertainties. The one thing that is certain however is that farmers are very proud of their heritage. Farms are often in the same family for very many generations. They are a legacy nobody wishes to give up, no matter how hard life may be. Imagine the Queen giving up her crown jewels!
At Woldmarsh we are committed to helping our members to become more sustainable. And sometimes that demands diversification. Alternate uses of land can often yield better returns, for example renewable energy generation or quarrying. Farm shops and visitor attractions can also be a good extension of business.
Why Weddings and Events?
Many of our venues host successful weddings for family and friends, all very DIY, and all very informally. With couples increasingly looking for different places to get married the opportunity to offer weddings is often knocking at our farmers’ doors. But to truly offer a wedding venue service, industry experience and expertise is a must. Without the trust of a family or friendship connection, independent clients quite rightly demand assurance that their wedding day will be hosted and managed perfectly. That is where Woldmarsh and specifically Elderflower Events are here to help.
Elderflower Events employ and work alongside other recognised industry practitioners to create weddings and events at our exclusive farm venues. Farm members benefit from Elderflower Events venue marketing and end to end management of weddings and events. Our Woldmarsh farmers are happy to be farmers and leave weddings and events to us!
For prospective wedding clients this venture provides access to some amazing locations and a bespoke wedding planning service. There are a host of other types of corporate or celebratory events for which farmland can also provide a perfect location.
Tell us more about your farm weddings and events
Our hand picked venues have more than being a farm in common. They are all located within or overlook areas of outstanding natural beauty. All boast wonderful countryside views. Most offer lawned garden or meadows where you can choose a marquee or tipi style wedding or event. We also have a rustic barn perfect for festival style weddings and a country house option for small and intimate celebrations. Pop over to our Venues page to take a look.
Typically wedding couples choose to legalise their marriage in a nearby church or registry office on the same day as their wedding reception celebrations. Or increasingly bride and grooms formally marry at a registry office a couple of days beforehand and then incorporate a humanist ceremony within their farm wedding. A celebrant helps to craft a very personal ceremony which is the real thing as far as you and your guests are concerned.
Dining can be anything from a traditional seated 3 or 4 course meal, a picnic, a BBQ or even street food style. And partying can be loud if that’s how you like it – the sheep and cows don’t seem to mind!
How do farming and farm weddings or events work together in practice?
A working farm doesn’t necessarily mean mucky farmyards and ploughed fields. At farms where arable or livestock farming is more apparent our farmers rotate field usage and ensure your wedding or event is cow (and cow pat) or sheep free. Some of our venues won’t even feel like farms at all. You are simply on scenic farmland. For countryside fans it is all about location, location, location. Rustic style or country chic, we have venues to suit both. And more.
We are really pleased to bring this venture to life for our farmers. It is another way for us to bring value to our farming community. It is what Woldmarsh is all about.
